How to Choose the Right Fragrance for You

Most people choose a fragrance the way they choose a song on the radio — whatever's playing when they walk into the store. That's how you end up with five bottles you never wear.

Here's a quieter way to do it.

Start with how you want to feel, not how you want to smell

Before you smell anything, decide on a mood. Do you want to feel sharp and awake, or warm and settled? Fragrance families roughly map to this: citrus and green notes (like VERTIGO's bergamot and cardamom) feel alert and clean. Woods and amber (like VELVET's oud and amber) feel grounded and warm. Florals (like VORTEX's tuberose and iris) feel soft and deliberate. Green tea and moss (like VALOUR's oakmoss and ambroxan) feel quiet and composed.

Test on skin, not on paper

Paper tells you what a fragrance smells like in the first five minutes. Skin tells you what it smells like after two hours, which is the only test that matters. Spray once, on your wrist, and leave it alone. Don't sniff it every ten minutes — your nose adjusts and you'll stop trusting your own judgment.

Give it real time

A fragrance changes across the day. What smells strong at 10am might be barely-there by 3pm. Wear it through a normal day before deciding — not a ten-minute test in a store.

Unisex isn't a compromise

VERTIGO and VALOUR are built to work on anyone, not because they're neutral, but because bergamot, cardamom, green tea and ambroxan don't belong to a gender in the first place. If a scent works with your skin, it works.

We didn't think you needed convincing — but if you're deciding between our four, message us on WhatsApp and describe how you want to feel. That's usually a faster way to the right answer than reading notes on a label.
